To quickly identify which version of App-5 you are using and what is the latest version, check this Microsoft article.

Editing App-V OSD files in Notepad++ with syntax highlighting is fairly easy. Just associate XML with OSD.
You can do that like this:
Select Settings > Style Configurator…
now add osd as User ext. to XML (you may want to add osd sprj instead of only osd ;-) )
