Remember last played position in VLC player

The VLC player plugin srpos allows you to pickup where you paused your video. (tested on VLC player 2.1.1)

You can find it here.  (including description on how to install it)

Tip: use Ctrl-1 to open the last file you played.

VLC

Update 2/9/2014:

For Linux Ubuntu (or Ubuntu based distros) type the following in Terminal:

sudo add-apt-repository ppa:samrog131/ppa
sudo apt-get update

  1. Thanks for this! I really love it. However, is there any way to specify which files this applies to? I want all my music files to play from the beginning and all movies from their saved position.

    1. Thanks for you comment. It does not look like there is much to configure in this plugin, I did not see such option anyway. I only use VLC for movies and I only tested playing from the paused position, which seems to work good with this plugin.
