FireFox35

There it is, the final version of Firefox 3.5, a few days after RC3. I did not notice Firefox updating the version and now everywhere it clearly states 3.5 instead of RC3. There were probable not a lot of changes between RC3 (or no changes at all) and the final version 3.5 …

Anyway both versions seem snappy. Up to version 4 now ;-)

You easily find all the necessary info in the following Microsoft support document: http://support.microsoft.com/kb/270670. If your Windows XP has crashed and you don’t want to copy a complete profile, the default location is C:\Documents and Settings\USERNAME\Local Settings\Application Data\Identities\{GUID}\Microsoft\Outlook Express . May be handy sometime …

You can create a GPO to avoid that the application, security and system log become too large.

This is a Computer policy: Computer Configuration, Windows Settings, Security Settings, Event Log

- Retention method for application log, Overwrite events as needed.
- Retention method for security log, Overwrite events as needed.
- Retention method for system log, Overwrite events as needed.

ePolicy Orchestrator 4.0 DAT file in master repository is some versions behind 25 June 2009

The solution for this issue is relatively simple. In ePo, go to Software, click Pull Now , and select DAT.

On an occasion I encountered another problem: the message Failed to download site status file was displayed, and I could not select the package to pull. I found the solution on the McAfee community site. Define the proxy server manually in Software, Configure Proxy Settings, Proxy server settings . This indeed solved the issue.

It is not possible to modify settings from “Terminal Services Profile”; everything is grayed out, and “CDOEXM Modifications disabled” is displayed.

Solution: run ADModify from Windows Server 2003.

No this is not a new tool. I just needed to do some bulk modifications on AD, and wanted to find back some variables. You can find information on all this in this Microsoft Technet article: http://technet.microsoft.com/en-us/library/aa996216(EXCHG.65).aspx.

Firefox 3.5 RC 2 is available now (see freewarefiles.com), so I guess it won’t take much longer before we will see the final version 3.5 coming. I have been testing the latest 3.5 Beta versions together with version 3.0.x of Firefox without any problems. They both run stable on the same system (just installed in another folder; 3.5 nicely took over the settings from 3.0.x).

NetBooks: as long as everything is working fine — great; but what if you cannot boot anymore from your OS ? Usually this is Windows XP, and you don’t have a build-in CD-ROM to use a rescue bootable CD, or use the Windows XP CD to try to repair your XP installation.

This is where a bootable USB key would come in very handy ! The faster you could make one, the better !

I’ll describe some easy methods to create such a bootable USB key.

IIS 6.0 FTP logging 11 June 2009

Logfiles by default can be found in %windir%\system32\Logfiles. Without further customization outgoing requests can be found in these logfiles.

Recently I had issues with incoming FTP requests, which are more difficult to pinpoint. With TCPView from Sysinternals I could find which machine caused this, which helped me solving the problem.

I recently installed version 3.0.182.2 Dev and encountered weird font and layout issues, so I uninstalled it and reinstalled Google Chrome 2.0.172.28.

Today I found Google Chrome 3.0.183.1 Beta at http://www.majorgeeks.com/Google_Chrome_d5974.html. This version works without any problems. One remark though: why doesn’t Google put all Google Chrome versions on their website, so everyone can easily download the version they would like to test (instead of having to search on freeware sites …) ?
