Many people know from their own experience that it’s not easy to install an Apache web server and it gets harder if you want to add MySQL, PHP and Perl.
XAMPP is an easy to install Apache distribution containing MySQL, PHP and Perl. XAMPP is really very easy to install and to use – just download, extract and start.
At the moment there are four XAMPP distributions:
XAMPP for LINUX
XAMPP for Windows
XAMPP for Mac OS
XAMPP for Solaris
XAMPP is free of charge

To add autoscroll functionality to listboxes in AutoIt add this Include:
#include <GuiListBox.au3>
Add a function, call it for example _AutoScroll:
Func _AutoScroll()
_GUICtrlListBox_SetTopIndex($ListName, _GUICtrlListBox_GetListBoxInfo($ListName) – 1) ; Autoscroll to end of ListBox !
EndFunc ;==>_AutoScroll
Then, each time you write to the listbox add a call to
_AutoScroll()

Problem:
Using Citrix auto created printers some users can print to LJ 1022 printers. Other users cannot print to the same printers.
Solution:
Use the recommended HP LJ 6L PCL5e driver (included in OS) instead of the HP host based driver. See previous post.

One thing what’s actually not always that handsome when posting, is the interface of for example WordPress or other blogs. I heard about offline web log editors a while ago, so I did a quick search on WordPress.com and found a list of offline editors (here ). This makes it much easier to prepare new post or edit previous posts.
I downloaded and wrote this post with BlogDesk 2.8. Straightforward to install and with enough possibilities for now. You prepare your posts offline. You save them from and can continue to work on them … and when your done, you publish them with one click. Working with images is sometimes time consuming. BlogDesk has an Image Wizard which makes this process a quicker and straight forward. After having worked with it for 15 minutes I am already fond of it.
Another offline editor which looks nice, but I haven’t tested it is the portable version of w.bloggar. Just download this portable version and unzip it to your USB stick. More info on http://www.wbloggar.com.

Remote Control through firewalls 6 May 2008

In the following article I’ll take a look at some product to take remote control of other PC’s through NAT routers, some products also go through firewalls.
Category1: Remote control in seconds
A number of products are specifically designed take control of another system in a matter of seconds. Here are some solutions:
TeamViewer
Teamviewer exists in 4 versions: a free version (free for non-commercial use), Business 6 months, Business and Premium. Check out their licensing page for more details about pricing and differencies in possibilities. I’ll talk about the free (for non-commercial use) version here.
TeamViewer: free for non-commercial use. The best product in this product in this category in my opinion.
Pro: does not need to be installed (but can be installed), a lot of possibilities, free version available (for non-commercial use), considerably faster than the VNC based products, and also contains file transfer, NAT routers: no problems. Con : not free for commercial use.
How to use – in brief — (more screenshot, see here):
Click on Start Customer Module from the TeamViewer webpage if you want to share your PC.

Not able to print in color from Citrix 6 May 2008

Sometimes you a color document print from Citrix, with apparently all settings to color but the printouts are in black and white anyway.
Possible solution:
Citrix takes over the settings from Windows. If your color printer is set by default to B/W in printing preferences, close your Citrix session. set it to color in Windows and open your Citrix session again.
But maybe you don’t want to spoil that expensive color toner and prefer to print in B/W most of the time.
Yes, you can leave your settings to B/W in Windows and switch it in Citrix to Color.

I have made a small AutoIt script which checks in the registry where to find the OLK temporary folder and then opens it. You can download the script here (zipped EXE file; AutoIt source code is not included).
More info about the Outlook Temporary folder, with a clear explanation can be found on groovypost.com.
